Philadelphia star Ben Simmons had a career best night against Utah on Tuesday, but it was fellow Aussie Joe Ingles who had the last laugh.

Simmons dropped an Australian-high 42 points to go along with his nine rebounds and 12 dimes in his side's 123-134 loss to the Jazz.

The Sixers All-Star shot 15-26 from the field and an astounding 12-13 from the free throw line in the absense of fellow Philadelphia star Joel Embiid.

Ingles posted 20 points and five assists for Utah in the win, with guard Jordan Clarkson dropping 40 points off the bench.

Despite the loss, the Sixers remain perched atop the Eastern Conference standings with an 18-10 record and will face Houston in two days time at home.

The victory means the Jazz further strengthen their place atop the Western Conference, extending their record to 23 wins and five losses.
