The Miami Heat are on their way to the NBA Finals for the first time since 2014.

They were led to and subsequently dropped by LeBron James after their 2014 loss to San Antonio Spurs.

James opted out of the last year of his contract and returned to Cleveland, where it has since been a baron time in South Beach with the Heat not making it past the second round of the post-season.

Now they return to the NBA Finals and face the LA Lakers, a team which is built very differently. The Heat are about depth and even contributors, no one player is depended on. However the Lakers rely heavily on star duo James and Anthony Davis, and so they should.

Their two stars are impossible to stop when up and running and have the ability to blow teams off the floor.

Miami have relied on their whole roster in their series win over Boston, in game 4 Tyler Herro posted 37 points in a career game, then in the deciding game it was Bam Adebayo who stepped up on both the defensive and offensive ends.

Andre Igoudala caught fire from distance in game 6, which was greatly needed as star Jimmy Butler was kept relatively quiet.

The Lakers will need to be sure they're prepared to shut down every Heat player that steps on the floor, if they focus too much on one or two they will be caught out by those who slip under the radar.

LeBron James' game 5 against Denver was vintage King, a 38-point triple double sent the Nuggets packing and showed James' focus is on bringing another championship to Los Angeles.

The Lakers have been paying tribute to the late Kobe Bryant all post-season and will be channeling the Mamba mentality in a bid to pay the ultimate tribute to Kobe.

The Heat have gotten much further than expected by playing team ball, their system has been second to none and they keep defying the odds.

But this may be a bridge too far, the Lakers star power may be too hot to handle and take too much of the Heat's energy to cover. But if we've learnt anything this post-season, it's to not count out the Heat nation.

Prediction: LA Lakers win 4-2.
