With the NBA set to wait until May to formally reassess its shutdown due to the coronavirus pandemic, commissioner Adam Silver has asked all of the league's employees to present ideas and concepts for a potential return to play.

Various protocols have been discussed to get players ready for a return, with one idea gaining traction is a 25-day program for players to undertake before they return, sources have told ESPN.

Under the plan, players would undergo an 11-day stretch of individual workouts where they can maintain social distance while ramping up training and activity. Then, if given the all clear by medical personnel, a two-week training camp with full teams participating will take place.

In conversations with team and league personnel, medical experts have expressed concern about timelines if the NBA is to continue this season.

With many players unable to train due to quarantine directives, there is concern of players' susceptibility to injuries when play resumes. Some team executives have stressed the need to have one months' preparation before a return to action.
